A recorder with nothing to install, for when you need to capture an idea, a voice note or a stretch of a meeting and do not want to open a whole application for it.
The recording is held in the memory of the tab and only reaches your disk when you hit download.
The level meter is there so you can check before you start that the right microphone is selected and the input volume is sensible. A level pinned at the top distorts; one that barely moves gives you an unusable recording.
How to use it
- 01 Press Record and accept the microphone prompt.
- 02 Watch the level meter: it should sit in the middle range while you talk.
- 03 You can pause and resume without splitting the recording into several files.
- 04 When you stop, listen back and download it.
Frequently asked questions
What format does it download?
Whatever your browser supports, usually WebM with Opus audio, or MP4 in Safari. Both open in any modern player and convert to MP3 with ffmpeg if you need that.
Can I record system audio instead of the microphone?
Not from the browser: it only gives access to input devices. Capturing what plays on your machine takes a desktop app, which is what Eco does.
Do I lose the recording if I close the tab?
Yes. It lives in the memory of the tab until you download it. Download before closing.
Is there a length limit?
We do not impose one, but the recording takes memory while it runs. For very long sessions record in stretches.
